TRUCK STOP BY LACHLAN PHILPOTT
Katrina Douglas' in your face, high energy and tightly directed production, featuring four outstanding performers, is well worth a night in the theatre.
Rebecca Whitton, Australian Stage
‘It was a privilege to see something so sophisticated in its writing and production that I encourage everyone to see it and if you have teenagers, take them with you and use it to springboard a discussion with them into current teenage trends and behaviours in this global accessible graphic world we now live in.’
Jane Simmons, SOYP Blog
‘Katrina Douglas' direction pays close attention to rhythm and the script's quick-cutting style. The technical cues are tight and she has cast the play effectively.’
Jason Blake, SMH
Sam and Kelly live out west. They spend their lives waiting for texts, for boyfriends and those bitches in Year Ten to leave school so they can have somewhere decent to hang. But the longest wait is till the end of school, and waiting can be deadly. Bored on recess and with double maths looming, the girls escape through the hole in the fence. Hang out at the truck stop on the highway at the picnic table with flies. Read graffiti. Talk about sex, prostitutes, Lady Gaga. When a truck pulls up. Their hearts race. The truckie's kind of young. And hot. Sam issues Kelly a dare ...
Lachlan Philpott was inspired to write ‘Truck Stop’ by the true story of three 15 year old girls who skipped class to prostitute themselves to truck drivers at a truck stop out the front of their school. The world premiere production received rave reviews from critics and audiences. Jason Blake, Sydney Morning Herald's theatre critic, named 'Truck Stop' as one of the top ten productions of 2012.
'Truck Stop' was commissioned by the Q Theatre in 2011. The world premiere season was at the Q in May 2012.
