GARDEN OF THE MIND
‘The impact that your group has had on reducing stigma in the Lithgow community should not be underestimated. … From a creative viewpoint, I think the subject matter was handled beautifully and sensitively, both the performances and the installations were interesting and challenging. The imagery being projected was very very powerful.’
Cathy Crowe, Director Mental Health, Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District
‘One week on! Holy heck!! Still buzzed from that show. Everyone was phenomenally brilliant! I've been lucky enough to receive some roaring reviews from dudes I went to school with (27-29yrs), family friends (40-50s), neighbours (50-60s) and Nan (70s). So much praise "I had no idea it would be this GOOD!". So much shocked appreciation - "You only get things like this in Sydney or Melbourne!". So much triumphant triggering - a friend/neighbour who attended brought me a poem they wrote on the night, inspired by the themes. It is fantastic!’

‘I have had an absolute blast being part of this production. It has been deeply and tensely satisfying, spiritually and emotionally, to work with such dedicated, talented, sharing, caring people. The performance was electrifying and sumptuous to partake in and to watch. This experience will resonate for a long time with all saw it. Thanks again for the memorable journey through time and space.’
Paul, Performer
‘Garden of the Mind’ was an immersive performance installation produced by Trybal Productions. This verbatim performance was inspired by stories shared by people from Lithgow (regional NSW) about recovering and living with mental distress. ‘Garden of Mind’ was created in collaboration with 23 Lithgow locals aged 17 to mid 60s. Through a synergy of movement, music, projection and verbatim performance, ‘Garden of the Mind’ offered an insight into the challenges of living with depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, postnatal depression, grief, PTSD, addiction, loneliness, and paranoia.
‘Garden of the Mind’ premiered to a sold out audience at the Lithgow State Mine Heritage Park on 12 October 2019.
